The glossy glaze came about through glaze tests. When I saw the results I fell so in love with these blue, turquoise and green tones that I decided to create a whole series just for this glaze. The series includes glossy vases and bowls in various shades of turquoise, blue and green. The glaze is a little tricky, since it likes to run. But for this particular glaze, that’s completely fine.
That’s actually what makes it come alive and gives it such great variation.
Glossy Vases
Glossy Vases was born from that very feeling – these are vases and bowls where the glaze takes centre stage. Pieces where the glaze is allowed to flow freely, where colour and lustre get to shine, and where every piece finds its own expression.
No two vases are alike. The forms are hand-thrown, and the glaze flows differently depending on how it’s applied, how thick the layer is, and how the kiln behaves during firing. This is what makes the glaze and the ceramics feel alive.
On letting the glaze show the way
I’ve been mixing my own glazes for over forty years, and they still surprise me.
