Description
Seed Pods – The Seed of Life
The seed pod is a form I keep returning to. It follows me through nearly every clay and technique I work with – from the electric kiln in the studio to distant wood-fired kilns in other parts of the world.
My seed pods rarely have any models. They are not depictions but visions – interpretations of something that carries life, protection, and transformation. They emerge in both stillness and work, with a presence that engages both hand and mind.
The shell, the surface – that is what encloses the most important thing we have. What carries all living things forward. Some pods are smooth, others a little prickly, even off-putting. Like a protection for their precious interior.
For me, the seed pod is a symbol of the beginning of life – and of what continues, embraced and carried.
